• HHS Topper Pride Award 
    Recipients for December

     

    The Topper Pride Award is given to one student from each grade level once a month. Nominations are submitted by faculty for a student showing exemplified characteristics in leadership, attitude, and direction.  It may be an ongoing act and/or one specific and deliberate act of random kindness.  Following teacher nominations, a monthly winner is selected by Mrs. Heyen.

    Jacob Holcomb has been chosen as the recipient of the Topper Pride Award this month for the Class of 2020.  Jacob is a senior at HHS and is the son of Doug and Angela Holcomb. Jacob plays soccer at HHS and in his spare time he likes to practice soccer, Game, and learn Arabic. Jacob also enjoys reading adventure books. Jacob would like to recognize his friend Jack Combs.  Jacob says he admires Jack because he never belittles anyone. Jacob’s favorite part of the day is the entire school day because he loves seeing Hiltopper faces. Jacob would like give some advice to other students and that advice is to “keep your head up and stay confident.” Jacob said if he ever won a million dollars he would donate it because he prefers to earn his money.  After graduating hIgh school Jacob’s plans are to attend college; however, he has not decided on a major.     

     

    August Plunkett has been chosen as the recipient for the Topper Pride Award at HHS for the month of December at HHS.  August is a junior this year and is the son of Mike and Heather Plunkett.  August is involved in choir, percussion ensemble, and band. In his spare time, August likes to play certain video games and he enjoys playing and practicing with musical instruments.  August would like to give a shoutout to his friend, Cameron Wilson.  August said Cameron is a nice person who always makes him laugh. August’s favorite part of the day is his Music Education classes because he is very interested in music.  The advice that August would like to give to other students is ̈To enjoy yourself and have fun often.̈  August was asked what he would do if he won a million dollars and he responded  ̈keep a quarter of it, donate a quarter of it, and try to live as close to where he lives now. After graduating from high school, August would like to go to Lincoln Land and study Music.

     

    Olivia Gent is the recipient of the Topper Pride Award at HHS this month.  Olivia is a sophomore at HHS and is the daughter of  Brooke Loucks.  Brooke is currently on the cheerleading squad at HHS and belongs to Hiltop Yearbook Club.  Olivia enjoys hanging out with her friends, practicing her cheerleading and listening to almost all types of music.  Olivia would like to give a shout out to is Abigail Schreiber.  Abigail is her best friend and sticks with her through tough times and they also have lots of good times.  Olivia's favorite part of the day is Hiltop because they get a lot done and it is a very laid back class. The advice that Olivia would like to give other students is “when a certain class makes you want to dropout, try harder.” Olivia also loves animals. After graduating high school, Olivia would like to attend college at Lincoln Land Community College and then transfer to SIUE.

     

    Liz Flowers is a freshman and has been chosen to represent the freshman class this month.  Liz is the recipient of the Topper Pride Award at HHS.  Liz is the daughter of Debra Jones and David Jones. Liz is currently a member of the Topper Art Club at HHS. In her spare time, Liz likes to spend time with people she loves.  Liz likes to listen to country and pop. The person that Liz would like to give a shoutout to is Mercedes Clark because she has been there for her since day one. Liz's favorite part of the day is her 5th hour math class because she really enjoys it.  The advice that Liz would like to give to other students is to “think positive and don't give up, there is always a reason.” Liz was asked what she would do if she won a million dollars and she responded she would help the homeless and help people who need it.  Liz said she would also like to help her grandparents around the house.  After graduating high school, Liz would like to move to New York and be a Photographer.
