DAR Nominees 2023
The DAR Good Citizen program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. Hillsboro High School faculty chooses three students who exhibit qualities of a good citizen. Students must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Hillsboro High School seniors vote for one of the three nominees to represent their high school as the DAR Good Citizen. The DAR Good Citizen receives a $500 scholarship, Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card. This student is then eligible to enter the DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest. The scholarship contest consists of two parts. Part I requires the student to submit an essay that describes how he/she has tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. Part II is a timed essay, administered in a two hour period of time, on a topic to be announced on the day of the event. Contestants are eligible to receive the aforementioned $500 scholarship and a chance to continue on to the national level with the chance to visit Washington D.C. Winners at the national level can receive a $5000 scholarship.
Congratulations to Marianna Lowe for being chosen by their teachers as the DAR Good Citizen.
