"This I Believe Illinois""This I Believe Illinois" is an annual essay program for Illinois high school seniors. The NPR IL "This I Believe" essay contest is open to Illinois high school seniors as an opportunity to express "where their minds are as they prepare to enter the adult world." Mrs. Gonzalez, HHS ENGL 1500 dual-credit class instructor, encourages her students to participate in this contest. The essay prompt reads:Tell a story: Be specific. Take your belief out of the ether and ground it in the events of your life. Consider moments when belief was formed or tested or changed. Think of your own experience, work, and family, and tell of the things you know that no one else does. Your story need not be heart-warming or gut-wrenching—it can even be funny— but it should be real. Make sure your story ties to the essence of your daily life philosophy and the shaping of your beliefs. To hear the podcasts of the students reading their winning essays, please visit: https://www.nprillinois.org/podcast/this-i-believe-illinois2022 Winners from HHS are:Audrey Hemken TIB October 2022 Essayist This I Believe: "Home is Not a Place"Aurelie Granito TIB October 2022 Essayist This I Believe: "I Believe in Getting a Taste of Diverse Cultures"Kamryn Kiper TIB October 2022 Essayist "I Believe in the After"Summer Smith TIB October 2022 Essayist "I Believe in Orange Juice"2021 Winner from HHS is:Melissa Rufus TIB February 24, 2022 Essayist This I Believe: "I Believe in Showering in the Dark"
