• Classroom Rules

It is my goal to have a productive classroom where students are doing the work of social studies, widening their understanding of the world, and engaging in civil and productive discussion. To enable these things, all students are expected to adhere to the following rules:

    1. Think
    2. Be respectful of others: themselves, their time, their stuff, and their ideas
    3. Participate
    4. Be in the room on time. Have all your materials ready and be on task 2 minute after the start of class
    5. Have assignments done at the beginning of class on the day they are due

    Homework policies

In order to have the opportunity to receive full credit, students should have assignments done at the beginning of class on the day they are due. However, I believe that if an assignment was worth doing the first time, it is worth doing late. Therefore, in our class late work is accepted under the guidelines detailed below.

    1. If you are sick, turn in your missed work within the same number of days you missed for the possibility of full credit
    2. For other late work:
      • On major projects:
        • 1 day late = 10% reduction of grade
        • 2 days late = 20% reduction of grade
        • 3 days late = 30% reduction of grade
        • 4 days late = 40% reduction of grade
        • 5 or more days late = 50% reduction of grade
      • On homework:
      • 1 day late = 10% reduction of grade
      • 2 or more days late = 50% reduction of grade

It is important for students to understand that each teacher has their own policies. Each teacher has determined how their late work policy contributes to the overall development of successful students. Feel free to check with other teachers and understand how (and why!) they deal with late work.
