  • James Hewitt

The son of Richard and the late Gladys Hewitt, Jim Hewitt was born in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1985 where he played football, basketball, and tennis.  After high school, Jim attended Lincoln College on a tennis scholarship and left college in 1986 to join the family business, Hewitt-Ware Feed & Supply.

In early 1989, he made what he called "the toughest decision of my life," and left the family business.  He was hired as a programmer trainee at Enterprise Systems, a Chicago-based software company specializing in health care solutions.  He rose through the ranks, moving from programmer trainee to director of research and development within a few years, and eventually becoming vice president of development. While working for Enterprise, Hewitt married his wife, Kelly, and they welcomed their first and second child. After six years, he joined The Options Clearing Corporation, becoming managing director in 1995. The OCC focused exclusively on the financial industry and sent Hewitt all over the world to various stock exchanges. At home, he and his wife welcomed identical twin boys to their family during this period, giving them four children under the age of four. He also launched a side business called Northline Systems, Inc, which specialized in retail-focused software and produced products for FTD, among others.

In 2001, Hewitt joined Allscripts as their chief information officer (CIO), where he helped grow the company from a small medication repackaging business into one of the industry's major health care technology companies. In 2007, the family moved to Litchfield, allowing him and his family to see his mother through breast cancer treatments. That year, Hewitt became CIO of Springfield Clinic. His first major role was to implement a comprehensive Electronic Health Record (EHR) system throughout SC's network, receiving national recognition and placing SC among the top four percent of multi-specialty clinics in the nation to have accomplished a comprehensive EHR implementation at that time. In 2009, Hewitt again decided to form his own company, founding Jardogs in Springfield with Ron Ward, his former colleague from The OCC and Allscripts. Together, the two produced and brought to market the company's first product, the Patient Kiosk, which won Best Healthcare Kiosk Solution at the 2010 KioskCom show in Las Vegas. Realizing his company's potential to create a real impact in both the health care and technology industries, Hewitt began to grow his team, next bringing to market the Universal Health Record, an expanded version of a patient portal combined with features from a personal health record and an EHR. Today, Jardogs has over 25 employees and is continuing to break new ground in both health care and technology fields.
