The Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board of Education is committed to serving the students, families, staff, and community of Hillsboro with integrity, transparency, and dedication. Our board members work together to set district goals, approve policies, and ensure that every student within HCUSD#3 has access to high-quality educational opportunities.
The Board of Education meets regularly to discuss district initiatives, student achievement, finances, facilities, and long-term planning. Their mission is to support an environment where all students can learn, grow, and succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Matt Lentz – School Board President
Matt Lentz has proudly served on the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board of Education since 2011. As Board President, he contributes his expertise to several key committees, including Transportation, Buildings & Grounds, Negotiations, and the Parent-Teacher Advisory. Mr. Lentz is a retired Illinois Conservation Officer by profession. He enjoys hunting and fishing in his free time. He and his wife, Brandi, are dedicated parents to Carter, Ethan, and Reagan, and he actively gives back to the community as a volunteer coach for youth sports.
Nathan Kirby – School Board Vice President
Dr. Nathan Kirby has served on the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board of Education since his appointment in 2020. As Vice President, he brings his insights to the Curriculum, Negotiations, and Personnel/Policy committees. Dr. Kirby is an optometrist by profession and enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and following Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey. He and his wife, Kendra, are proud parents of Brooklyn, Benson, and Annie. He actively supports the community as a volunteer coach for HSA sports.
Brian Patton-School Board Treasurer
Brian Patton has served on the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board since being elected in 2023 and is an active member of the Buildings and Grounds, Finance, and Personnel/Policy Committees. He is the Head Cross Country and Track Coach at Greenville University and brings leadership and dedication to the district through his professional and community experience. Brian enjoys running and is committed to service as an elder, Sunday School teacher, and youth coach. He lives with his wife, Heather, and their children, Elijah and Caleb. Kassie Greenwood-School Board Secretary
Kassie Greenwood has served on the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board since being elected in 2021. She is an active member of the Curriculum and Finance Committees, bringing her expertise as an Accounting Manager to support the district’s academic and financial goals. Kassie enjoys spending time with her husband, Cody, and their children Caleb, Karsyn, and Kinley. Beyond her professional work, she is dedicated to the community, serving as Post Prom fundraiser and planning committee. In addition, she volunteers with local clothing drives.
Bill Christian-School Board Member
Bill Christian was elected to the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board in 2025 and serves on the Transportation and Curriculum Committees. As a Sports Complex Administrator, he brings leadership and organizational experience to support the district’s programs and operations. Bill enjoys spending time with his wife, Heidi, and their children Coral, Jade, Will, Tatum, and Peyton, and his hobbies include watching sports.
Mike Cerutti-School Board Member
Mike Cerutti has served on the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board since being elected in 2023 and is an active member of the Curriculum and Personnel/Policy Committees. A retired Department of Corrections employee and current Grounds Keeper at the Hillsboro Sports Complex, Mike brings a wealth of experience in operations and community involvement. He enjoys hunting and fishing and takes pride in his family, which includes his spouse, three children, and four grandchildren. Mike has also dedicated over 30 years to the Ducks Unlimited Committee, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to community service.
Blake Furness-School Board Member
Blake Furness joined the Hillsboro Community School District No. 3 Board in 2023 and serves on the Building and Grounds and Transportation Committees. A dedicated farmer and concrete and construction contractor, Blake brings hands-on experience and practical knowledge to support the district’s facilities and transportation needs. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Cassie, and their children Kylee, Makinley, and Jake, and his hobbies include hunting, fishing, and collecting antique farm equipment.
