Biometric Collection Information

Hillsboro Community School District collects biometric information from students only for identification and/or fraud prevention purposes. Biometric information includes unique behavioral or physiological characteristics, such as fingerprints, hand geometry, voice, facial recognition, or iris/retinal scans.

Under Illinois School Code, the District must obtain written permission from a parent or guardian, or from the student if they are 18 years of age or older, before collecting any biometric information.

How the District Handles Biometric Information

The School Code requires the District to follow strict procedures to protect student biometric data:

  1. Secure Storage and Protection: All biometric information is securely stored, transmitted, and protected from unauthorized disclosure.

  2. No Sale or Lease: The District will not sell, lease, or share biometric information with any person or entity unless:

    • You provide prior written permission, or

    • Disclosure is required by a court order.

  3. Discontinuation of Use: The District will stop using a student’s biometric information if:

    • The student graduates or withdraws from the District, or

    • A written request is submitted by the student (if 18 or older) or by the parent/guardian.

  4. Destruction of Data: All biometric information will be destroyed within 30 days after a student leaves the District or upon a written request for discontinuation.

The District is committed to protecting student privacy while maintaining secure and efficient identification processes.
