Welcome to Hillsboro Junior High and 6th grade! I am excited to meet you and share a successful and rewarding year. This is my twenty-first year at HJHS and my eighteenth year teaching Sixth Grade Math. I have been teaching since 1993.
Homework is an essential aspect of learning and will be assigned every night (including Fridays). Your child should expect to spend between 15 and 30 minutes on each assignment. If your child misses class (due to illness, music lesson, etc.), he or she is responsible for making up the assigned homework, as well as any activities from class that day. I will be available after school Monday through Thursday to work with any students in need of additional help.
Our math curriculum is called EngageNY. There is no textbook for this curriculum. Your child will have a 2 page packet everyday. This pack will contain completed problems from the days notes and also the days homework. Additionally, we will use a variety of instructional resources to develop the math. AS you know, Math as well as other subjects is now concerned readying your child for the CCSS assessments. There is much debate about these new standards, but in the area of math, it does have a big benefit. This benefit is that your child has more to time to learn the topics taught.
It is essential that each student come prepared to class everyday with his or her completed homework and a pencil.
Sixth grade is a big step and a year of change as you enter Junior High. I am looking forward to guiding you through this journey! Go Dragons !! I hope you are ready to learn and love math.
