Scholarship Program & Awards

The Hillsboro Educational Foundation thanks its generous alumni and friends for supporting students’ educational goals. Last year, the Foundation awarded approximately $150,000 in scholarships to deserving graduates.

The Foundation manages a wide variety of scholarships for Hillsboro High School students. Each scholarship includes details on award amounts, eligibility requirements, and application instructions.


Scholarship Donations

The Foundation welcomes donations to support existing scholarships or to establish a new scholarship in honor of an individual. Donations are fully used for scholarships.

Foundation Scholarship Details

Anita T. and John F. Rundquist Scholarship

  • $1,000 Teacher Education award

  • For students planning studies in agriculture or foods & nutrition

  • Presented by the Rundquist family in honor of their parents

BAI/Lynn Keepper Memorial Scholarship

  • $1,000 annual award

  • For students interested in promoting the arts

  • May be used for tuition, fees, and books

Bank of Hillsboro Business Scholarship

  • $500 annual award

  • For students pursuing a career in business or accounting

Betty and Ida Baumann Nursing Scholarship

  • Annual award for students pursuing a nursing career

  • Tuition and fees covered; renewable upon application

Bonnie Ireland Memorial Scholarship

  • Awarded to a senior pursuing a degree at a four-year university

Camden's Crew Academic Scholarship

  • $1,000 award for students pursuing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or special education

  • Honors Camden Burke, a student with Cri Du Chat Syndrome

Conrad and Betty Dawson Family Scholarship

  • $1,000 award for a graduating senior pursuing a four-year university degree

Dale Stretch Vocational Education Award

  • $500 award for students pursuing a vocational career

Dr. Staci Jo Garvin Memorial Scholarship 

  • $500 award for students pursuing a vocational career

Donna Springer Memorial

  • $1000 scholarship for tuition, fees, and books

Dusty Cameron Memorial Scholarship

  • Honors a former student; award amount varies

Educational Foundation Scholarships

  • Range: $500–$10,000

  • For Hillsboro High School graduates

  • Funded by alumni donations

Edward A. Goyak Scholarship

  • $1,000 award

  • For students studying civics, government, or public affairs

Ellen McGurty Nursing Scholarship

  • $500 annual award

  • For students pursuing a nursing or medical profession

Erik Paul Westerman Memorial Scholarship

  • For students pursuing computer graphics, art, or high-performance automotive careers

H.E. “Woody” and Catherine Woodruff Memorial Scholarship

  • $1,000 award

  • For students in language education or agriculture

Harold D. and Marilyn Sitton Memorial Scholarship

  • $1,000 award

  • For students in education or healthcare fields

Harold S. Sitton Vocational Scholarship

  • $1,000 award

  • For students pursuing vocational careers, priority to Building Trades

Hillsboro Sertoma Scholarship

  • Awarded for community service

  • Based on quality and documented volunteer efforts

James and Cecilia Hayes Memorial Scholarship

  • Two $1,000 awards

  • Requires C average, essay, and two recommendation letters

  • $500 award

  • Funded by Jan Young family in honor of his service to the district

Pamela Knostman Haisty Memorial Scholarship

  • Preference for students pursuing social work or psychology

Rik and Shelby Denicke Scholarship

  • $1,500 award

  • For tuition and fees for trade schools, two-year, or four-year programs

Robert E. Shankland Memorial Scholarship

  • $500–$1,000 award

  • Preference for education, music, liberal arts, sciences, or piloting

Robert Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship

  • For trade schools, two-year, or four-year programs

Rose Mormino Teacher Education Scholarship

  • Up to $10,000 over four years

  • For students pursuing teaching

St. Luke’s Irving Academic Scholarship

  • Two $2,000 awards

  • Priority for students from Irving area
