Information for Parents

  • Medication at School:
All medications—prescription or over-the-counter—must be brought in by an adult and accompanied by the required medical authorization forms.

  • Immunization Requirements:
Students must remain up to date with Illinois state immunization laws. Notices will be sent home if updates are needed.

  • When to Keep Your Child Home:
Please keep your child home if they have a fever (100.4° or higher), vomiting, diarrhea, or a contagious illness. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning.

  • Health Plans:
If your child has asthma, diabetes, seizures, severe allergies, or another chronic condition, please contact the school nurse to create an individualized health plan.

  • Screenings:
Vision and hearing screenings are conducted yearly per state regulations. Referrals will be sent home if follow-up is recommended.

  • Birth to 3 and Pre-K Support:
Nurses work with early childhood staff to support developmental screenings, medical records, and school readiness.

Information for Educators

  • Student Health Plans:
Teachers will receive copies or summaries of IHPs, Emergency Action Plans, and allergy alerts as needed.

  • Classroom Health Support:
Contact the nurse regarding students who show patterns of illness, injuries, or chronic symptoms.

  • Medication Awareness:
Staff should never administer medication unless formally authorized through the nurse’s office.

  • Communicable Conditions:
Notify the nurse promptly if multiple students are experiencing similar symptoms.

  • Training and Certification:
Annual training is provided for CPR, AED, seizure protocols, EpiPen use, and emergency procedures.

  • Field Trips:
Notify the nurse early about upcoming trips so medications and health needs can be planned.
