Band is open to any HJHS student who has previously been in band and has not dropped band. Any student wishing to join band for the first time should have their parents contact Mrs. Manasco for information. All band students have full band rehearsal three times per week and one small group lesson every other week. Students are expected to practice at home and show a signed practice record at their lesson. Sixth grade band performs at the Christmas and spring concerts, and students have the option of preparing a selection to perform at solo/ensemble contests in the spring. Seventh and eighth grade band performs at various parades including the Old Settlers' Kiddie Parade and the Witt Labor Day Parade. The 7th/8th grade band also performs at the Christmas and spring concerts, as well as Organizational contests. Students may also participate in solo/ensemble contests, Vandalia Honor Band, or IMEA Honor Band.
