Graduation Requirements

To graduate from Hillsboro High School, a student is required to earn 22 academic credits.

These credits must include a minimum of:

  1. Three credits of English: English I, English II, English III required (6 semesters) (FOUR CREDITS RECOMMENDED)
  2. Two credits of social studies, of which at least one year must be history of the United States and one semester of American Government (4 semesters)
  3. Two credits of science (4 semesters)
  4. Three credits of mathematics (6 semesters)
  5. Consumer Education (1 semester) or Adult Living (1 semester) or Math Concepts (2 semesters)
  6. Health (1 semester)
  7. Passing 7 semesters of physical education (or equivalent of one course each semester of school if a student graduates early)
  8. One year chosen from: Music, Art, Foreign Language or Vocational Education
  9. All students are required to pass an exam on both the Illinois and United States Constitution

Social Studies Three years (1 year of US history, 1/2 year American Government and other social studies).
Foreign Language At least two years of one language
Additional Courses Arts (visual and performing), keyboarding with computers and computer course work
*Specific high school course requirements vary from institution to institution. For instance, some schools recommend 3.5 or 4 years of math. Be sure to check with the schools you are interested in to see what they recommend or require.
