Marching Hiltoppers Win Grand Champion Trophy

The Marching Hiltoppers of Hillsboro High School traveled to Barry, Illinois to compete in the annual Barry Apple Festival Parade on Saturday, September 30.

The fifteen bands in the parade were categorized by band size into classes A,B,and C. The Marching Hiltoppers won the first place trophy for best Class B band. Drum majors Jessie Harling and Danielle McFarlin placed second in class with a total of 99 out of a possible 100 points.

The Marching Hiltopper drumline won the trophy for best drumline of all bands in all three classes. The award-winning members of the drumline are Broc Pachesa, Chase Flecher, Paige Collins, Phil Wilkinson, Mark Sands, Shelby Thacker, John Pocklington, and Cameron Walker.

For the first time ever, the Marching Hiltopper Band was awarded the grand championship trophy for being the best overall band of the day in all classes. This trophy is awarded based on the top music, marching, and showmanship scores. This year's musical theme for the band is the 50's musical Grease.

All three trophies will be presented for public display during the HHS homecomming football halftime performance by the Marching Hiltoppers on Friday October 6.
