COURSE DESCRIPTION: Keyboarding is designed to give the student training in basic keyboarding and formatting skills using the computer as a writing instrument. Computer Applications provides the student with an understanding of fundamental computer concepts. It allows hands-on experience with the Microsoft Office 2010 integrated program introducing basic word processing, spreadsheet, database and integration concepts. These tools will be used in conjunction with the Internet for special projects. The course is a prerequisite for most classes offered in the Business Education Department.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Information Processing I A is designed to teach efficient use of Windows and advanced word processing features using Microsoft Word 2010. In addition desktop publishing concepts will be taught using Microsoft Publisher and the Revealed Series of Adobe products including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Hardware worked with in this class includes: digital camera, scanners, and a SmartBoard.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class will complete an exploration of the Microsoft Office 2010 suite of programs. Students will complete projects using Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as the integration of all software packages of the Office suite of programs. Use of the Internet will be an integral part of the course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Accounting I is designed to give the student a thorough knowledge of basic accounting principles for personal use, entry-level accounting positions, and further study in accounting.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Multimedia I  is a skill-level course designed to prepare students to plan, design, and create powerful, next-generation multimedia projects through the combination of graphics, sound, animation, text, and video. Students will first learn the basics of creating computer animations with Flash.  They will then learn the fundamentals of web page design using Dreamweaver.  These projects can be incorporated into web pages or written to CDs.  Software used:  Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 and Audacity.
 

 

MULTIMEDIA II (B320) (Spring)
OPEN TO GRADES: 11, 12
PREREQUISITES: Multimedia I
LENGTH OF COURSE 1 Semester
CREDIT: 1/2 credit
COURSE DESCRIPTION Multimedia II is a continuation of Multimedia I.  Students will learn advanced features of Flash and will use Dreamweaver to create web sites incorporating frames, forms, and cascading style sheets. Students will receive an introduction to image editing tools and will learn the basics of creating audio and video files. Upon completion of the class, the student will have compiled an electronic portfolio of projects completed to showcase his/her skills acquired. Software used:  Adobe Creative Suite 5.5, Audacity, Windows Movie Maker, and Photo Story 3 for Windows.
 

 

MULTIMEDIA III (B420) (Fall)
OPEN TO GRADES: 12
PREREQUISITES: Multimedia II and approval of the Instructor
LENGTH OF COURSE 1 Semester
CREDIT: 1/2 credit
COURSE DESCRIPTION Multimedia III is a skill level course for students who have completed Multimedia II with the purpose of  expanding the student’s knowledge and ability to produce state-of-the-art multimedia projects.  This class will be conducted in an enterprise-style learning environment. Student teams will partner with "clients" to develop and maintain individual school websites for Hillsboro Community Unit School District and to create collaborative multimedia projects with classes in other subject areas.  Instruction will include using hardware and software to capture, edit, create, and compress audio and video clips. Employability skills will be integrated as appropriate.  Upon completion of the class, the student will have compiled an electronic portfolio of projects completed to showcase his/her skills acquired.  The students will also gain experience on Mac computers and the iLife and iWorks software suites.
 

 

MULTIMEDIA IV (B420) (Spring)
OPEN TO GRADES: 12
PREREQUISITES: Multimedia III and approval of the Instructor
LENGTH OF COURSE 1 Semester
CREDIT: 1/2 credit
COURSE DESCRIPTION This advanced independent study class serves as a capstone course to the Multimedia sequence.  In addition to contributions to the Hillsboro Community Unit School District’s website, the student will continue to advance his skills in the multimedia arena by developing individualized projects with instructor approval.  The student will also serve as a mentor to the  Multimedia III students. Employability skills will be integrated as appropriate. Upon completion of the class, the student will have compiled an electronic portfolio of projects completed to showcase his/her skills acquired.
 

 

TECHNOLOGY LAB
OPEN TO GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12
PREREQUISITES: Good reading and math skills
LENGTH OF COURSE: 1 semester
CREDIT: 1/2 Credit/Elective
COURSE DESCRIPTION: An introduction to technology based careers using a hands-on approach. The student will complete various units during the semester by completing the required activities, reporting on those activities and taking a test over each unit to demonstrate his/her knowledge of that unit.
