Grassroots Support for Excellence in Education
Public school systems everywhere have faced financial pressures
in recent years. Costs have increased and, in many cases, funds available
for education have decreased. The Hillsboro Community Unit School District
#3 is no exception. The Hillsboro Community Unit School District continues
to strive to provide an education environment that is up-to-date in curriculum
and technology.
Now, you and other individuals and businesses in the school district community
have a means of helping our public school system. The Hillsboro Community
Unit School District #3 Educational Foundation was established in response
to the need for increased community involvement and support for public education
-- to promote quality education in the District.
It is the Foundation's hope that together, our financial gifts -- no matter how large or small -- can help make the difference between simply getting an education...or getting a quality education.
A: This Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation formed to provide public support for public education through tax-deductible contributions.
Q: What is its purpose?
A: Funds received by the Foundation will be used to supplement, enhance and enrich educational programs and facilities, and possibly scholarships, available to all students in the Hillsboro Community Unit School District #3 of Montgomery and Bond Counties. Its purpose is not to fund educational programs that are funded by tax dollars.
Q: How is the Foundation governed?
A: It consists of a seven member governing Board representing the entire Unit District #3 area and all walks of life from the community at large.
Q: Is the Foundation part of the Board of Education?
A: No. The Educational Foundation operates under the auspices of, but is independent of the Board of Education. The initial Foundation Board was selected by the Board of Education with subsequent directors recommended by the Foundation and approved by the Board of Education.
Q: How much shall I give?
A: The Foundation appreciates any and all gifts. The following levels of donations are suggested:
| Family contribution | $10-$24 |
| Patron | $25-$99 |
| Century Club | $100-$499 |
| Presidents Club | $500 or more |
| Directors Club | $1000 or more |
Q: How will the funds be spent?
A: Project proposals are submitted to the Foundation by staff members in the school district. These requests might include such purposes as special equipment and supplies, special activities and/or learning experiences for students, enhanced facilities and staff development. Support will be given to projects that enrich, rather than duplicate, existing programs.
Q: Who determines how the funds are spent?
A: Spending decisions are made by the Foundation, after consultation with district administrators. Advice and opinions are solicited from parents and other members of the community.
Q: Is my contribution tax deductible?
A: Yes. Your contribution to the Foundation may be treated as a charitable deduction for federal income, gift, and estate tax purposes.
Q: May I designate how my contribution is to be spent?
A: Yes. The Foundation accepts both restricted and unrestricted contributions as well as endowment funds and donations for specific projects. However, because of its tax-free status it must reserve the right to accept or reject any donations that might jeopardize this status.
Q: How do I contribute?
A: Simply print and fill out the form and send your contribution made payable to:
